Account Source of Truth

Account Source of Truth is the per-field decision about which system wins when tools disagree on account data.

Instead of one system owning everything, you assign ownership field by field: CRM owns owner and stage, the enrichment vendor owns firmographics, the marketing platform owns engagement data, and the warehouse stores a reconciled copy.

A practical example

Example: a sync overwrites an account's employee count with stale enrichment data, breaking an ABM segment. With a field-ownership matrix, the warehouse copy is authoritative for firmographics, so the overwrite is caught and reverted.

What to evaluate before investing

  • Can the integration be configured for field-level sync direction, not just object-level two-way sync?
  • Does the vendor document which fields it writes to and whether writes can be disabled per field?
  • Can you export a change log showing which system last modified each field?

Limitations and tradeoffs

A field-ownership matrix is an internal configuration decision, not a vendor feature; most tools support it only partially, so expect manual reconciliation for contested fields.
